Meet the Family: Marta

Meet the Family Friday is here, celebrating current Upward Scholars Operations Manager and student Marta! 🙌🏼

Marta is a Venezuelan immigrant living in San Bruno and majoring in English and Communication Studies at the College of San Mateo. She plans to transfer to San Francisco State University for a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies next fall.

As a student, Marta has received many benefits, including a computer and college textbooks. During the pandemic, she also received grocery gift cards, Safety Net Fund support to help cover emergency expenses, and other holistic support. "Through the loss of loved ones in Venezuela, the Upward Scholars family comforted me during this overwhelming sadness; for that, they will always have a special place in my heart." 🫶

In addition to being a current student, Marta began working with Upward Scholars in 2021 as a Program Assistant and has been promoted three times since then. 👏🏽 "Upward Scholars has truly changed my life. Thanks to their mentorship, I was recently promoted to full-time Operations Manager and could not be happier. They gave me the boost I needed to move up the economic ladder, which is our exact mission at Upward Scholars."
